TOWN OF SPETSES
Spetses is the capital and the harbour of island. The settlement has been characterized preservable. The mansions houses of the captains with their characteristic architecture, the Byzantine churches and the pebble paving alleys constitute samples of the traditional architecture that characterize the town.
The central square of the town, Dapia, assembles the bigger tourist interest. Around of her function a lot of taverns and cafeterias, while in this neighborhood there are a lot of rooms to rent. This historical square constituted the meeting place of fighters of 1821.
The cannons of the Revolution are still to the square.
In the right side of harbour, in the Posidonium square is found the statue of Bouboulinas that reminds in each visitor the contribution of Spetses in the Greek Revolution and her own. The house of Laskarina Bouboulina functions as a museum. There the visitor will see many personal effects of the heroine. Also you have to visit the museum of Spetses that is housed in the mansion of Hatzi Yannis Mexis. The exhibits include infrequent heirlooms of Revolution that deserve you see.
The beaches of Spetses promise unforgetable moments to you. The most popular of them are the Agia Marina beach that is found in the north-eastern side of Spetses, the beach of Agios Mamas that is found near to Dapia, the Kounoupitsa and Agios Nikolaos with crystal waters. The beach of Agia Paraskevi is considered as one of the more beautiful beaches of the island. It is found in a dense vegetation region. The pines and the golden sandy beach compose an exotic scenery.
Spetses is a popular destination for all year round. It is found close to Athens and it constitute a lovely place for relax and entertainment. The hotels are open all the year.
